Scones

Ingredients

  • 3 cups (450g) White Wings plain flour, plus extra for dusting tray

  • 6 teaspoons Aunty Mary or Excelsior baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 75 g chilled butter, chopped

  • 1 to 1½ cups (250ml-325ml) milk, approximately
    extra milk, to glaze

Method

1 Preheat oven to 220oC. Grease a baking tray and lightly dust with flour.
2 Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Rub butter into flour using fingertips, until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

3 Add milk and mix quickly with a knife to form a soft dough. Knead a few times, then lightly press to 2cm thick. Cut into 12 even-sized pieces. Place on prepared tray, leaving a 2cm space between scones. Brush tops lightly with milk. Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown.
